Tomahawk Road Trip Retreat Update

By Evan Nehring

SKABLAM! Yes, this is kindof a new feature. Didn't mean to shock you like that. I just need a new place to talk about the really great time I'm having hanging out with young adults, since that's what I talk about on my blog. Of course, if you're not exactly in the 18-to-20-something crowd, you're still welcome to hang out with us here.

Last night was our second Thursday night of five in Tomahawk with the young adult group at the Northwoods Vineyard Church. We're going through the whole Road Trip Retreat, which is five multimedia presentations based on the five big questions of young adulthood:
  1. Start on the Mountain and Chart Your Path - Answering the question, What's my spiritual center?
  2. Make Your Way to the Shire - Answer the question, Who will I spend my life with?
  3. Find God's Truth in the Forum of Ideas - Answering the question, What's my worldview?
  4. Find Your Calling in the Marketplace - Answering the question, How will I make a living?
  5. Rise to Serve on the Stages of God and Man - Answering the question, What difference will I make?
These sessions are pretty intense and personal. Personal for me because I talk very openly about my journey through these big five. Personal for folks hanging out because the night is all about them and what God's doing in their hearts. I can't help thinking: Oh my goodness, if they actually connect and buy into God's plan for the big decisions of their lives, it'll change everything!

We went up on the mountain last week! The mountain is where you get above it all and let the Creator King pour life, vision, and destiny into who you're becoming as a person.

We went to the shire last night. The shire is about family and friends. It's about romance and lifelong commitment. The shire is laughter and togetherness. It's a blessing.

Next Thursday we are all over the planet with worldview. Philosophies and religions: all kinds of big ideas that are going to compete with the biblical truth of creation and forgiveness, and what that means for how we live together. Epic!

Thanks again, Tim and Megan Nelson, for the opportunity to road test the Road Trip Retreat. I'm thrilled with the great conversations we've had and driven to finish the book project and get out there!

Thanks, Tomahawk young adults for your warm reception. Praying for you all!
