Kingdom Story Part III: Kingdom Song of Liberation
By Evan Nehring
And when God breaks through and we see the changes that you prayed and fought for, we’re going to sing and celebrate together! Exodus 15 contains the song the Moses and the Israelites sang when Egypt was defeated.
|Red Sea, Morning in Saudi Arabia|
One of the most striking observations about this song is that it expresses the divine name over and over again: I AM, YHWH, Yahweh. In the NIV, they capitalize all four letters of the word LORD whenever Yahweh is translated instead of the Hebrew name Adonai. This is a victory song for the God who revealed Himself as Yahweh to Moses at the burning bush!
Now the revelation is accomplished, the intervention is accomplished, and it’s time to sing a song of liberation and celebration! Look at these words from Exodus 15:
"I will sing to the LORD ,
for he is highly exalted.
The horse and its rider
he has hurled into the sea.
2 The LORD is my strength and my song;
he has become my salvation.
He is my God, and I will praise him,
my father's God, and I will exalt him.
3 The LORD is a warrior;
the LORD is his name.
6 "Your right hand, O LORD ,
was majestic in power.
Your right hand, O LORD ,
shattered the enemy.
11 "Who among the gods is like you, O LORD ?
Who is like you-majestic in holiness,
awesome in glory, working wonders?
When your breakthrough comes, God will put a song in your heart that will never stop. You’re going to worship Him in a whole new way!
And then Moses’ song comes to its climax with these words:
18 The LORD will reign
forever and ever."
It means that God is the king of our hearts as we have the privilege of submitting to His Lordship. It means that God will intervene and breakthrough for His people when He hears our cry. It means that when we are oppressed, God will come as our king and mighty man of war in the heavenlies to do battle on our behalf.
This liberation brought to the Israelites on the banks of the Red Sea is offered freely to all mankind in the fully divine, fully human Son of God, Jesus the Christ. Jesus has come and has shown us the love and righteousness of God and has bought our forgiveness with His blood on the cross. He is our God and we are His people! In the face of every personal and global calamity, Jesus offers freedom.
God’s kingdom story is alive and active today.
