2013 Week 52: Let's Celebrate a Bit

2013 Week 52: Let's Celebrate a Bit
So what are your personal highlights for 2013? I'd love to hear from you in the comments or replies. What's better today than it was at the end of 2012? What are you proud of? We've got a lifetime of rising to become who we were created to be. There have to be some milestones along the way. What are some of your milestones for this past year?

But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. Philippians 3:13-14

This is my 30th and final #carpediem post for 2013. As I read back over the year's challenges, it melts my heart. Intentionality is so powerful! (Here's the index page for all of the #carpediem posts.) Before I report on the final two weeks, here are some of the year's highlights:

  • 12ish great monthly dates with my sweetheart, Colleen Marie.
  • Formal book proposal submitted to a publisher, received with possibilities
  • Several house projects completed: finishing organizing my office was a big one
  • Wade finishing a year of the auto tech program at NTC (half done!)
  • Tim & Megan bought their first home and hosted us for Christmas
  • Jason's outstanding success with getting in shape
  • Achieve Epic Ambulatory certification for work
  • Put a new roof on our house (with much help from family and friends...thank you!!!)
  • Installed a new Dutch cobblestone driveway (see previous family and friends comment)
  • Began work on a broken concrete patio
  • Amazing 50th anniversary celebration with our parents
  • First trip to Lambeau Field for Family Night

Here's the week 52 version of my goal updates for 2013. Zero weeks to go.

1. Have 12 monthly date nights with Colleen.

This was a fun goal for 2013. December was about friends and family so we did lots of traveling and group things. It's a bit of a stretch for a date, but it gets us out of work/project mode together. I love that. We had a couple of months like that, but all in all a good date year. This is a habit worth keeping. Love you my Babe!

2. Lose 37 pounds.

Yeah, 33 was the closest I got here. No great lament. The new year will be about knocking off a few holiday pounds and tackling a new challenge. Another strong goal.

3. Meet my Road Trip writing deadlines for 2013.

First draft is done! To be honest, this is why the weight loss goal took a back seat. I was so determined to arrive at this day with this goal completed. Really, I have a book. True, it needs a lot of polish but do you understand how much easier that work is? Creating something from nothing is really challenging. I'm SO looking forward to fine tuning. Ideas are percolating already. Every day!

I didn't get everything I wanted. Mainly I wish I'd been able to finish off my weight loss goal. Actually, my original intent was to hit that goal early in the year and go for more. On the other hand, if I hadn't tried I'd have gotten nothing. All year long I held the tension of that goal and I'm in a better place than a year ago. That's something to build on.

Some things snowballed on went farther than expected. The roof project snowballed into a driveway project. That was unexpected and great! The driveway project snowballed into a patio project. Those additional projects were focus changers. There's a very big difference between doing physical work and focusing on your health.

So, yes, overall I'm thrilled with 2013. I have no regrets. There has been huge uncertainty and God's presence has been my home. He honors me by continuing to call me to his higher purposes.

I've thought about changing to a whole new #carpediem format for 2014, but I don't think I will. This worked. I'm so driven to keep pressing ahead into God's plans. I'd love for you to come along! To be honest, I can't wait to finish writing this so I can get busy preparing for the new year.

I have some planning to do today. Some reflecting. I hope to put out some new goals tomorrow. Here's to another year of wonderful highlights for 2014.

Comments are always welcome!

So really, truly, genuinely, what are some of your highlights for 2013? Take a moment and think about it. Looking back will help you look forward.
