2013 Week 37: Fall Means Back to Routine

2013 Week 37: Fall Means Back to Routine
It's good to get back to routine. I'm not just saying that because I have kids. Don't get me wrong, that's a big part of it...but not all. It's been a project summer for us: plenty of sweat and not so much relaxation.

But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. Philippians 3:13-14

2013 Week 37: Fall Means Back to Routine

By Evan Nehring

It's good to get back to routine. I'm not just saying that because I have kids. Don't get me wrong, that's a big part of it...but not all. It's been a project summer for us: plenty of sweat and not so much relaxation.

Fall's no lighter. We have a huge software implementation at work. It's three weeks from launch and the team is already fried like brats remembered on the grill an hour too late.

Yep.

I'm so thankful work though. So many out of it. That's really tough. But wherever we're at, we've got about 15 weeks of 2013 left. Time to max out that routine!

Here's the week 37 version of my goal updates for 2013.

1. Have 12 monthly date nights with Colleen.

August was the least date like of all our 2013 dates, and the most meaningful. Certainly that's true for me. We spent a week celebrating with my parents their 50th anniversary. Through all the preparation this was such a sentimental season for me. And it makes me think of my 50th with Colleen. That will be such an amazing day.

Now, with September half over, we watch for an opportunity to steal away...

2. Lose 37 pounds.

OK, I celebrated a bit over the 50th week and have gotten back to business. I'm at 22 pounds now for the year. I SO want to hit this!

I've been testing out my roof-injured knee and it's been feeling pretty good. Saturday I scootered up to the middle school track on a glorious afternoon for a run. The breeze and sun really fuel me when it's so perfect. My first half lap was 59 seconds! That's so great for my fitness level right now. The whole lap was 2:12. Not bad...still a great pace. Second lap was strong and then, disappointment. My left calf started to seize up with my old calf tightness problem. That was it. No more running at all until I lose some more weight. Maybe 15 pounds or so.

So it's all back on the nutrition. That's going to be a real challenge with the craziness of this fall work project. Gotta do it!

3. House projects: Finish Organizing Upstairs Office

On hold until I catch up closer to the writing timeline.

4. Meet my Road Trip writing deadlines for 2013.

This labor section is taking shape and I'm very excited about the finished result! Hopefully I can catch up to the timeline dates now that we're back in routine.
  • August 12 for Servant, Apprentice, Journeyman, Master
  • August 26 for A-LIST ~ Abilities: What Am I Good At?
  • September 9 for A-LIST ~ Location: Where Do I Want to Work?

5. 50th Anniversary Preparation - Completed

This was such an amazing afternoon! The camp dining hall was packed with about 150 guests from so many eras of my parents' history! Family and friends gathered 'round and it was a day for the ages. The weather was absolutely perfect and we enjoyed dozens and dozens of wonderful moments.

The preciousness of the moment is only magnified when family on both my parents' sides deal with so many health concerns and such recent loss. Mom and Dad, I'm so thankful for every day together. Praying for decades more together! Thank you for your faithful love for each other and your selfless legacy for all of us.

Fifteen weeks left in the year, folks. It's not much, but it's still a huge window of opportunity. What could God possibly do through us before the year is through?!
