2013 Week 27: Woooooh, Half Way There

2013 Week 27: Woooooh, Half Way There
So everyone knows how I look forward to the Christmas/New Year's holiday season every year. Let me ask you this: When you relax with friends and family at the end of this year, how will you feel about the year? Will you be celebrating a year of blessing, focus and accomplishment, or will you be trying to forget? I want to celebrate! Sure, it's just one year, but why not work hard, pray hard, play hard, and make it a great one! One great year after another makes a great life.

But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. Philippians 3:13-14

2013 Week 27: Woooooh, Half Way There

By Evan Nehring

Well, half of 2013 is gone. How's it been for you? I'm fine with setting goals for the new year, but I love engaging and rolling with life goals as the seasons change for each one of us.

So everyone knows how I look forward to the Christmas/New Year's holiday season every year. Let me ask you this: When you relax with friends and family at the end of this year, how will you feel about the year? What will celebrating look like for me?

  • Well, a new roof on my house is reason to celebrate.
  • A then-11-year-old who has made massive strides in his personal health will be reason to celebrate.
  • Twelve monthly dates with Colleen...wahoo!
  • Thirty-seven pounds lost, yes!
  • My office reorganized, decluttered and ready to help me be even more efficient.
  • EpicCare Ambulatory certification completed for work!
  • Road Trip writing deadlines met with a summer 2014 publishing date in sight!
  • A once-in-a-lifetime 50th anniversary celebration for my parents, thanking God for the legacy of their lives together.
  • Possibly a new driveway put in for our house.
  • Our first family trip to Lambeau Field.

Yes, I can live with that kind of a year. To be honest, I'm not sure how I'll top it in 2014 but I've got a few ideas up my sleeve.... Yes, half way feels good but that full celebration is going to require a lot of energy for the second half.

Here's the week 27 version of my goal updates for 2013.

1. Have 12 monthly date nights with Colleen.

I'd like July to be a little more special, since June was so simple. A nice meal and a walk on the mountain sounds like a winner to me. Praying on this one...

2. Lose 37 pounds.

The good news: I've had a nice, disciplined week of eating. The bad news: coming off the roofing project has been tough. I'm up two pounds. So my total is back to 24. Ugh. I've got to fight to get those two back. See, when I was working 5-13 hours a day on the roof, I could eat most anything and had to eat a lot to stay energized. I feel I'm just now transitioning back to my normal life habits. Plus, my two biggest goals of the year are done...the roof and #5 below. Yep, ready to drop some more weight!

Plan: Maintain WeightWatchers nutrition plan. Morning workouts.

3. House projects: Finish Organizing Upstairs Office

I got the new bulletin board installed above my writing desk. I really like it! Goal for this next two weeks:
  1. List on eBay five pieces of equipment for sale. It's stacked in the corner and I'm updating my studio gear to be more digital.

4. Meet my Road Trip writing deadlines for 2013.

This worldview chapter has been very meaty, as expected. I'm really happy with how it's coming together.

That said, goal #5 has taken most of my time this session. Do I adjust my timeline? No, not now. I want to hammer at it and see if I can make up some group. My next deadlines:

  • July 1 for The Lecture Hall: Worldview chapter - 10 days behind
  • July 8 for The Library: Academics chapter - 3 days behind
  • July 15 for The Campus: Juggling Demands chapter

So section three would be complete by July 15, or as soon as I can nail it.

5. My Epic Ambulatory certification project for work

Here's the big news this post: my certification project and exams are done! I'm waiting for results back on two of the exams, but I felt they went very well. I'm doing to chalk this one into the DONE column. This is a very significant career accomplishment and could open some doors within my organization.

5. 50th Anniversary Preparation

My parents' 50th anniversary celebration is Sunday, September 1 at Manhattan Beach Retreat Center (aka "camp") up in Canada. My goal this week is to outline and make some contacts for our little program we'll do that afternoon. It's going to be such a great day!

Roof: done! Certification work: done! 2013 is half over and I want to keep it rockin'!
