2013 Week 20: The Old and the New

2013 Week 20: The Old and the NewAll of this is really great. It really is, but I feel distracted. I remember a blog post about a road and a book project and I feel detoured. Then God reminds me that my map of the road ahead is just slowly lining up with His. This detour will not deter me from my plans and His plans. The old is becoming new. Crumbling old shingles are being ripped off and beautiful new high quality materials are being installed on the roof...and on my life...and maybe on yours...

But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. Philippians 3:13-14

2013 Week 20: The Old and the New

By Evan Nehring

I see the old and the new on my house every day. I've got a down payment on the finished product. Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. The project drags on and circumstances don't line up right away. We've been rained out twice.

We have one more planned weekend to have the group of family and friends come to help with the big project: May 31 - June 2. That weekend we go. If we work between rain bursts and cover with tarps, we go. If it's too wet to finish, we do whatever pieces we can and I finish chunk by chunk until it's done.

2013 Week 20: The Old and the New

Meanwhile, my Epic Ambulatory certification classes in Madison continue on, for me day job. Two weeks of classes down, one week to go and then the follow up project and tests.

All of this is really great. It really is, but I feel distracted. I remember a blog post about a road and a book project and I feel detoured. Then God reminds me that my map of the road ahead is just slowly lining up with His. This detour will not deter me from my plans and His plans. The old is becoming new. Crumbling old shingles are being ripped off and beautiful new high quality materials are being installed on the roof...

Evan working up high
Yep, that high. No, not crazy about it...
...but got this part done.

...and on my life...

                              ...and maybe on yours...

Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Faith is the road that connects me to my destination...to my destiny...and you to yours. We won't grow weary but we'll rest and refresh and bear on.

God calls. God leads. God heals. God refreshes. God intervenes. God calls.

We press on.

Here's the week 20 version of my weekly goal updates for 2013.

1. Have 12 monthly date nights with Colleen.

So we snuck in a quick visit to Applebee's last weekend while Jason was over at a friends' party. Wahoo! In this intense season, we'll take it! Colleen's birthday is today, actually, and we had a fun little present moment this morning before we all went off to work and school. Happy Birthday, my Babe! Looking forward to decompressing this weekend.
January through May: check. Next stop...June.

2. Lose 37 pounds.

OK, I got one more pound since two weeks ago. I'm down 25. Detoured, not deterred. I've deleted the deadlines for this goal. I'm moving in the right direction. I have other deadlines to meet. This goal is now to stay focused and finish hitting the 37 pounds as soon as I'm able, hopefully this year.

Plan: walk, run and work whenever I can. Keep pressing to maintain WeightWatchers nutrition plan.

3. House projects: Finish Organizing Upstairs Office

Silly me. This project is back on hold.

4. Meet my Road Trip writing deadlines for 2013.

Detoured, not deterred. The writing has been slow. I've made some progress and have had some thrilling breakthroughs which will make the finished product memorable. Stay tuned...
I'm going to need to adjust my June 5 deadline for section three. It's OK. Get the roof done. Get the certification. Keep my eyes on the road ahead.

The larger writing goal, again,  is to finish section three by June 5. That will include eight chapters (three are done), and that gives me about two weeks per chapter.

5. Complete the new roof project.

Much of the rain ended up sliding north of us last weekend, so I was able to work on the east eyebrow ledge that you see up above. My arm has been workable, with the tendinitis. I've found treatments to allow me to press on. Thanks for the prayers!

So, Father, I ask for your favor on the May 31 - June 2 weekend.
Detoured, not deterred. God calls...the road awaits...
