Five great questions of life: Life * Love * Learning * Labor * Leadership
Bathrooms Are About StyleBy Evan Nehring
In our husband and wife series, we've worked our way from bedroom to kitchen, from living room to dining room. Today we move to one of the smaller rooms of the home. :-)
Our favorite bathroom was actually adjoining bathrooms in our duplex on West Wausau Avenue. It was modern and stylish. Bathrooms say a lot about style. When people would ask me the “blonde or brunette” question back in the day, I would say something like, “hair color isn’t important to me as long as I’m with someone who looks after herself.” Colleen looks after herself sometimes to the tune of an hour a day. I don’t complain. I’ve gotten my wish.
She has always taken great care to dress stylishly, too. That’s not easy on a tight budget. Hey, Napoleon Dynamite laid to rest once and for all the myth that you can’t look good in second hand clothes! We do some of that and we donate in other seasons.
I held onto my 80’s look longer than I should have. I still had the mullet when people were beginning to mock mullets. Then I lost a bunch of weight and looked online for a completely different hairstyle. I went from shoulder length hair to a near buzz with a goatee and sideburns. Then everyone started doing goatees and I did a web search at work for facial hair. I went straight home to the bathroom and shaved the upper lip and sideburns, leaving just the actual goatee.
The next big change will probably have something to do with the receding hairline and hopefully more weight loss. I don’t relate to people who obsess over style and forget about livin’. I’m a fan of stylin’ AND livin’. Col and I will never walk the red carpet, but I like how we roll. Bathrooms are about style.
