2013 Week 6: Goal Glue

2013 Week 6: Goal GlueThe book proposal is submitted! I stayed up until 1:30 am on Saturday night cranking it out. I'm thrilled with how it has turned out. There's still much work to be done on the book, but having this piece to use as a publishing centerpiece is very helpful.

And here's more wonderful news about week 6: Jason (our 10-year-old) and I are both down 16 pounds!

What's the glue that holds your goals together?

But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. Philippians 3:13-14

2013 Week 6: Goal Glue

By Evan Nehring

What's the glue that holds your goals together?

Accountability is part of the formula for me. That's part of the reason why I blog some of my goals. My weekly check-in with you all sticks me to my commitments.

Other goals seem to progress just fine by including them in my system of projects and actions. I've always loved aspiring: throwing a dream out there and chasing after it. Then I like to mix in different flavors of goals on these posts to keep it interesting and perhaps stir some creativity.

If you have a moment to comment, I'd love to hear what you use for goal glue.

Here's the week 6 version of my weekly goal updates for 2013.

1. Have 12 monthly date nights with Colleen.

Yes, we had our Valentine's Day date, a few days early. Our options of places for Jason to go dried up, so he ended up coming with us. We used our gift certificate for Applebee's that we got for Christmas from Colleen's parents. Yum! Their steak and shrimp is always amazing with their special sauces, and they even had a really good Weight Watchers option.

Then we went downtown and checked out the ice sculptures on the square for the Wausau Winterfest. They were really pretty amazing, but Colleen doesn't do so well with the cold. That was a short tour.

2. Lose 37 pounds by May 6.

So here's the wonderful news about week 6: Jason (our 10-year-old) and I are both down 16 pounds! I actually just held my ground this week, not gaining or losing. I'm so proud of Jason! And Colleen has been so amazing with her great skinny food options that are so tasty.

My goal pace stays at 2 pounds/week.

3. House projects: Dishwasher Racks

I cranked on the dishwasher ranks for about four hours...and I still have a couple hours to go. I could be doing them right now, but remember the goal glue?

I made such a rusty, dusty mess! That's mostly done now and I'm just regooping the racks. Hopefully this will keep them serviceable for many more years.

4. Meet my Road Trip writing deadlines for 2013.

The book proposal is submitted! I stayed up until 1:30 am on Saturday night cranking it out. I'm thrilled with how it has turned out. There's still much work to be done on the book, but having this piece to use as a publishing centerpiece is very helpful.

I invested many hours into organizing the chapter structure for the later sections of the book. That work will speed my may in the months ahead.

Next writing goal: finish up the final chapter of section two so I can jump wholeheartedly into section three: "Learning: What's My Worldview? Find God's truth in the forum of ideas."

5. Complete the new roof project.

This goal didn't move. The weather was a bit nasty so I pressed ahead more on the other goals.  The goal for next Tuesday remains: to identify quantities for the purchase plan.

Is the glue holding for your 2013 goals? There's no wrong time to choose your new path. I'd love to hear what you're up to!
