Seven Core Values and Christmas

Seven Core Values and ChristmasWhat I really want is to live! To be authentically me.

Yes, I'll watch some football between now and New Year's Day. Yes, I'll enjoy the road trip home and relaxing with family. Yes, I hope to recover from a tough fall.

But I want to connect with my seven core values as a Jesus follower.

Five great questions of life: Life * Love * Learning * Labor * Leadership

Life: What's My Spiritual Center?

By Evan Nehring

Christmas is a week away. I've never gotten over the excitement of the season. These days it means, among other things, some time off work to be with family. And if I've got greater control of my time, what I really want is to live! To be authentically me.

So the seven core values that shape my day-to-day shape my vacation and holidays as well.

Seven Core Values and Christmas

Worship

The sights, sounds and smells of Christmas draw my spirit to the redemption story of Jesus. Silent Night melts my heart as I envision the shepherds who met the angels and the Savior when heaven broke in that night. Snow surprises me with cleansing forgiveness. My heart dances.

Devotion

Holiday pace is slower, more reflective. Even if it involves waiting til the cousins are done in the bathroom, it's good to pause and reflect. A winter prayer walk. Digging into the major prophets or the gospels. Journaling...

Family & Friends

I know Christmas doesn't feel festive for everyone. But if our hearts are full of worship and devotion, maybe that sweetness can simmer over to those closest to us.

Outreach

There are a thousand fun ways to stretch our circles of friendship this time o'year. Picking a few is a Jesus thing.

Character

What about a prayer like this? "Jesus, how can my heart be more like yours right now? Please carve away more of the sinful, selfish me and bring to life more of who you created me to be."

Personal Management

Like wisemen bringing gifts, Jesus, I offer you my possessions, my time, my money & career, and my health. Help me strategize and pray through my best use of these gifts next year. Help me be healthier, more organized, more productive, more aware of the priorities of my calling.

Kingdom Story

It's so clear what Jesus' part is in this great redemption story, but what's mine? I'm 44. God help me fulfill your calling for me in your grand design.

What I really want is to live! To be authentically me.
