The Outdoors, a Rich Devotional Life, and Gary Thomas

The Outdoors, a Rich Devotional Life, and Gary Thomas
It's springtime in Wisconsin. March 1st today and the sun feels warmer. Snow is receding and water trickles. Fresh, earthy air calls me outside. I don't worship nature but I worship the Creator who reveals his majesty through it. I don't get lost in nature, not for too long, because the path takes me back to a world in need of God and good.

I'm stronger, more rested, for having met with God in the sanctuary his hands built.

Another Mile Marker on our Road Trip: Moving North

Another Mile Marker on our Road Trip: Moving North
Road Trip headquarters is heading north!

Colleen and I have been working hard to get our home staged and ready to sell. We're moving 30 miles north to Tomahawk, Wisconsin. Yes, that's where we go to church and where our daughter Megan and her husband Tim Nelson lead and pastor the youth group. Our whole family is very excited!

Christmas Worship: Setting it Right

Life is so complicated. The nativity is so simple.

We set before our eyes the pure holiness of our self-sacrificing Savior. The Christmas scene of the nativity...what could be more pure, holy, and simple? God as an unblemished infant in the loving protection and care of father and mother.

Sermon Audio - Meeting God on Your Road Trip

Northwoods Vineyard ChurchVery much enjoyed speaking with the folks at the Northwoods Vineyard Church on Sunday, December 7th. We talked about God turning the hearts of the parents to the children heading out on their road trips, as well as King David's story of leaving home and heading out on his own.

Life in a Nutshell

We worship our eternal Redeemer. We become more like him through spiritual disciplines in the Word and prayer. We connect with godly family and friends. We reach out to our near ones. We grow in godly character. We get better with our time, money & career, health and possessions.

We step into our place in God's eternal kingdom story.

A Request: 30 Amazon Reviews in 30 Days

My publisher is requesting we all work together to get 30 Amazon reviews for Road Trip in 30 Days. Why? Well, it helps the book get out of the chute for sales. December is the second best season of the year for graduation gifts. Your honest thoughts on Road Trip can make a difference. If you're in the Wausau-Tomahawk area, I can also loan you a book for this purpose. It's that valuable to me!

2014 August: A Night at the Ball

2014 August: A Night at the Ball
It's tuxes and gowns. It's elegant music and hors d'oeuvres. It's family and friends lingering in the moment of arrival...anticipating... Have you had your evening at the ball?

Goodness: Choosing God and the Good

Goodness: Choosing God and the Good
My choices will bring to life in me a thriving, blossoming, well-nourished tree, or they'll take me down the road to arrogance, shame, isolation and dysfunction.

Bringing Spiritual Disciplines to Campus...or Finding Them There

The campus is a great place to carve out the devotion habit. Yes, the pressure is on with classes, but this is preparation for life commitments. Consequences in college are called grades. Consequences in life are called rewards and punishment.

Looking Into the Eyes of a Parent

Looking Into the Eyes of a Parent
There's nothing like looking into the eyes of a parent as you talk about your children finding their paths. It's hard to describe how deeply we want our children to do well and provide for themselves. Is it about getting them off of our financial support? Well, yeah, there's some of that. But far greater is our desire to see them thrive on their own.
