Dorm Expectations

Dorm ExpectationsAs your road trip routes through the college dorms, successful navigation means apprehending your destination and enjoying some scenery along the way. There’s a balance between pleasure and purpose. Or, to go a step farther, the pleasure serves the purpose by giving healthy outlets to be refueled and refreshed.

High School Grads: What to Take to College

High School Grads: What to Take to College
I brought my bass guitar along and ended up hanging out with music majors and later becoming one. I brought my leather Wilson Jet basketball along and watched my passion for team sports be replaced with the slow realization that fitness is for life.

How GTD Has Rocked My World

imageDavid describes this trusted system as managing your inventory of agreements with yourself. This is one of the gauges on your personal management dashboard. Taking control of your time will help you manage your health, possessions, money and career. Failing to take control of your time can lead to breakdown or chaos in every other area of your life.

2013 Week 20: The Old and the New

2013 Week 20: The Old and the NewAll of this is really great. It really is, but I feel distracted. I remember a blog post about a road and a book project and I feel detoured. Then God reminds me that my map of the road ahead is just slowly lining up with His. This detour will not deter me from my plans and His plans. The old is becoming new. Crumbling old shingles are being ripped off and beautiful new high quality materials are being installed on the roof...and on my life...and maybe on yours...

The Authenticity of Blue Like Jazz

imageMy dorm floor at North Central Bible College had a prayer room, Christian friends, and a Resident Advisor who challenged us to grow as men of God. Campus life at UWSP was more like Reed College.

Patience: God's Grace to Suffer Long

Life is chalk-full of conflicts. It is unrealistic, unhealthy, and spiritually naive to live life expecting everything to fall into place just for you. Life doesn't get out of the way simply because we become Christians. The sooner we accept this, the sooner we can begin find patience. The Apostle Paul gives us some guidance here, in the book of Hebrews.

College Breaks: Coming Home Again

College Breaks: Coming Home AgainThe launch doesn’t mean that you never come back to your parents’ home. The launch doesn’t mean your childhood home is any less special or personal. Home becomes even more precious when you realize that it’s no longer yours, not in the same way.

2013 Week 18: Here Comes the Sun!This was Thursday morning, April 25th! (8 months til Christmas) It was the storm before the calm. By Friday after work we were in the 70's and breezy with no snow in sight! I had some nice help and personally worked 40 hours between Friday night through the weekend and through Tuesday night.

Far From Home: A Simple College Connection

Far From Home: A Simple College ConnectionHaving big sis there was more of a comfort than I would have ever admitted. Sheri and her roomie, Tonilee from Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, had a great room location on second floor Miller Hall right next to the skyway to the chapel. She got a really long cord for her little piano phone—Sheri and Toni were music majors—and we would pull it all the way out through the dorm hallway and into the main hallway to call home.

2013 Week 16: Appropriately Engaged with My Commitments

Building Permit for New RoofDid you see? I picked up my roofing permit today. The big roofing weekend is not until May 4/5 but Wade and I are going to tackle the garage and small entry roofs this weekend. I've got friends bringing a pile of equipment by over the next two days. The permit is posted in the front door window. It is ON like Donkey Kong!
